3 Fatal accidents in Interlagos in less than a year – Munuera’s widow “Stop this killer track”
3 Pilots killed in less than a year. We are not talking about the Tourist Trophy but the SuperBike Brasil Championship. The Championship is not under the aegis of the International Federation which would certainly take action.
In June 2018 Rogério Munuera died. He lost control of his Kawasaki Ninja ZX10R, hit the side guardrails then died at the hospital. On April 14, 2019, Maurizio Paludete lost his life in a similar accident.
Yesterday Danilo Berto died. In 2018 he fell and was saved by a miracle, but in yesterday’s accident he didn’t have the same luck .
Hard words of Caroline, widow of Rogério Munuera, on Facebook. “I am Caroline, wife of Rogério Munuera, who also died in Interlagos and a friend of Danilo. Another life goes away in this irresponsible event which is the Brazilian SuperBike ! We not only have pilots but we have husbands, children, brothers and friends who risk their lives in this irresponsible circus promoted by the SuperBike. How long will the authorities avoid taking measures to prohibit Interlagos motorcycle races ? How many more lives will be needed ?? That’s enough ! We must immediately ban this murderous track. I hope that the International Motorcycle Federation will intervene and put an end to the motorcycle races at Interlagos. I thank you right now who can do something to put an end to all this.”
The E-Motors journalists had begun to follow the Brazilian Superbike Championship this season due to the presence of Anthony West but after Paludete’s death we had already asked ourselves many questions. Now, after this new tragedy, it does not seem more appropriate to promote a championship that does not sufficiently protect the value of life.
