West – The FIM would completely refute the accusations which are untrue and unwarranted.
The FIM is aware of recent unpleasant and inaccurate comments made by Anthony West on social media.
The FIM would completely refute the accusations which are untrue and unwarranted.
The facts are that Anthony West tested positive for cocaine at the FIM Supersport World Championship event at Misano on 8th July 2018.
This was the second time he has tested positive for a banned substance during a FIM World Championship event. The previous occasion was for a prohibited stimulant.
The FIM has a clear responsibility for the health and safety of all riders at our events and to ensure fairness for all in our sport as well as to uphold the reputation of our sport as a clean sport through our Anti-Doping program and rules in keeping with all other International Sport Federations.
Mr West was found to have breached these rules at a hearing and was suspended from participation in sport for a period of two years.
Despite this he chose to ignore this and breach his suspension by continuing to participate in the championship in Brazil.
This is against the rules of the World Anti-Doping Agency as well as the FIM Anti-Doping Rules.
The FIM has acted with integrity and in the interests throughout this process and Mr West is entirely responsible for this situation and must accept responsibility for his own.
