In Asia, there is a turning point for competitions reserved for series derived motorcycles. During the current season of the Asia Road Racing Championship, the most important championship in an area that is becoming the main market on the planet, the brand new Superbike category, the ASB1000, was introduced.
The latter has the full support of the four top Japanese manufacturers, officially present in the ARRC. Is this championship destined to become the alternative to the World SBK managed by Dorna? The goal of the ARRC, since its inception in 1996, has been to create young promises in Asian races, launch pilots who become real characters in the participating countries. Superbike has been in the plans for years. The idea
was promoted already in 2010 but the market and the teams were not ready, postponing the debut for this season. For years the flagship category of the championship was the SuperSports 600cc, which was very
successful, see the achievements of Zaidi, Shah, Fujiwara, Kiyonari, etc. But without a Superbike class the Asian pilots did not have the chance to test themselves at higher levels, its introduction had become a necessity. Now everyone at ARRC will have this opportunity. The ASB1000 also sees two Ducati V4s and as many BMWs on the line-up. Many fans are already questioning about a possible involvement of other European manufacturers such as Aprilia or MV Agusta. This will be one of the many goals of the Two
Wheels Motor Racing organization, in order to make the championship more exciting. Rumors tell us that they are already discussing with new teams intending to participate in the championship.
Stay tuned.
